PopWrap: The ratings for your show have been amazing, what was your reaction after the pilot did so well?Nina Dobrev: I screamed. We obviously have a lot of night shoots, so I woke up at 2 pm and had all these emails on my Blackberry with subjects like, "highest ratings in CW history." I woke up my roommate, Kayla Ewell who plays Vicki, and we screamed again. Then we did a happy dance, just jumping around in circles. Our neighbors must've thought we were crazy ... or being murdered.
PW: You mentioned night shoots, how are you handling them?Nina: It's hard because your internal clock gets thrown for a loop -- we shot till 5 am last night and I'm going to work now [ed note: it was 1:30 pm]. But I'm not complaining -- going to work is not like going to work. I get to do stunts, wear cool makeup, get bloodied and be around people I love -- basically my life is like the merry-go-round at a theme park. It's so fun.
читать дальшеPW: Paul Wesley told me that he'd never heard of "Twilight" until after he signed on, had you?
Nina: Yeah, I knew what it was. I have some friends in the movies and I actually read the books a couple of years ago when I was in Salt Lake City, because that's where the author is from. Her friend told me to read them and I thought they were cool.
PW: How long do you think it took people to see that "Vampire Diaries" is totally different from "Twilight"?
Nina: The storylines in the pilot are similar -- high school girl falls in love with a vampire -- but then we deviate in the next episode. We have so many different aspects, if I had to compare it to something else, it would probably be "Dawson's Creek" meets "Buffy" meets "True Blood." Yes, it's based on a book and yes there are vampires, but our show is more about this small town and how the people deal with all these deaths.
PW: Had you read the "VD" books?
Nina: I read the first two and then Kevin asked us not to read anymore because as much as they're planning to stay true to the books, we are going to deviate.(это интересно как?)))))
PW: I love that you guys aren't waiting to get to the meat of the story.
Nina: Every episode is jam packed. I don't think we're waiting for things to happen -- although suspense is building in many different ways. Someone gets bitten or dies in every episode. There's going to be blood, people will find out about it and Elena is going to find out Stefan is a vampire very soon. We're not going to draw it out for three seasons.
PW: I think there's more to Elena's parents death than we know -- thoughts?
Nina: [laughs] Yes ... I do think that too. I don't know when it's going to happen, but we're going to explore that storyline and that history. I feel like being on a show like this, you have an amazing secret that you so badly want to tell but can't. All I'll say is that in episode six, you're going to be totally surprised by what happens.
